Lyophilisation (freeze-drying)
A drying method in which the frozen solution is held under vacuum and the ice evaporates directly. The peptide is left as a loose powder without heating.
In the lab
After freeze-drying some residual water usually remains in the powder. It counts towards the weighed mass but not the peptide, and explains part of the gap between weight and peptide content.
