D-amino acid

The mirror image of the natural L-amino acid. Proteases recognise D-amino acids poorly, which is why many synthetic peptides such as GHRP-2 or ipamorelin contain D-residues on purpose.

In the lab

D-amino acids are often written with a leading "D-" or in lower case in sequences. The mass is the same as the L form, but stability against proteases is higher.
